Facts about ISL:
- ISL (Indian Sign Language) is the natural language of the deaf communities in India. It has its
own vocabulary and grammatical structures, which are different from all spoken languages used in
India.
- ISL uses both hands to create a sign (word/expression).
- Although 5 million deaf people in India use ISL daily, many more deaf people do not know ISL and
are marginalised in society due to a lack of ISL instruction in school.
